Most bee stings remain limited to the area around the sting, but it is important to watch for signs of a serious allergic reaction. Symptoms such as widespread hives, swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing, severe dizziness, or fainting require immediate emergency medical attention.
If the swelling becomes unusually severe, continues to worsen, or the area becomes increasingly painful, warm or develops other concerning symptoms, medical advice may be appropriate. A typical local reaction can be uncomfortable, but knowing the warning signs and responding quickly can make a bee sting much safer to manage.
