The idea sounds almost impossible. A zebra is a strong, fast-moving animal with powerful legs and a substantial body. A large python may look comparatively thin, yet its flexible body and unusual feeding abilities allow it to consume prey that appears much larger than its head.
That contrast has created countless dramatic stories and viral claims.
But when the question is examined carefully, the reality becomes much more fascinating than a simple yes-or-no answer.
Large African pythons are powerful predators, but their abilities have physical limits. The size of the prey, the shape of its body, its ability to defend itself, and the environment in which the encounter takes place all matter.
