If the bee has left a stinger, remove it promptly by gently scraping it sideways with a fingernail or flat-edged object. Wash the area with soap and water, then apply a cold pack wrapped in cloth for about 10–15 minutes at a time. Resting and elevating the leg can also help reduce swelling. Over-the-counter pain medicine or an antihistamine may help with discomfort or itching when appropriate.
